Legal notices
Please read these notices before relying on anything Retirement Planner produces. A shorter notice is shown when the app is first opened, and under Help ▸ Legal Notices; the notices below apply in full.
No financial, investment or tax advice
Retirement Planner is a personal finance modelling tool. Nothing in the application, its outputs, this guide or any associated material is financial, investment, tax or legal advice. All projections, income estimates, tax calculations, net worth forecasts and stress test results are produced by mathematical models for illustration and planning only. They are not a guarantee, prediction or promise of any financial outcome.
Do not rely on the application as the only basis for a financial or investment decision. Before acting on anything it produces, get independent advice from a qualified financial advisor, a tax professional or legal counsel, as your circumstances require.
Estimates and approximations
- Tax calculations are not exact. The app models the most common credits and deductions but not every personal tax situation. Actual tax is determined by the Canada Revenue Agency and Revenu Québec from a complete return.
- Benefit calculations are estimates. CPP, QPP, OAS and GIS are calculated from publicly available formulas and parameters. Actual amounts are determined by Service Canada and Retraite Québec.
- Projections use assumed rates. Future returns, inflation and interest rates are uncertain. Results may differ materially from any projection.
- Rules change. Tax law and benefit rules change often. The app may not reflect changes made after its last parameter update.
No warranty
Retirement Planner is provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind, express or implied. The developer does not warrant that the application will be error-free or uninterrupted, or that its calculations will be accurate, complete or current. To the extent permitted by law, the developer disclaims all warranties, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.
Limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by law, the developer is not liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages arising from the use of, or reliance on, the application or its output — including financial losses, lower retirement income, incorrect tax filings, or decisions based on its projections.
Professional use
Financial advisors and other professionals who use Retirement Planner with clients are responsible for complying with their regulatory and professional obligations. The application does not replace professional judgement or compliance review. Review client reports for accuracy before sharing them, and present them as estimates.
Data and privacy
Retirement Planner keeps all client data on your Mac. No personal or financial data is sent to the developer. The app downloads updated tax and benefit parameters from the developer’s website; this sends no personal data. You are responsible for keeping your own backups; the developer is not responsible for data lost through hardware failure, deletion or file damage.
AI features
If you use the AI withdrawal strategy, the financial figures, ages and province of the selected client, the strategy’s settings and the client’s AI instructions are sent to the AI provider you chose (Anthropic, OpenAI or Google) under your own account with that provider. Names, e-mail addresses, phone numbers and addresses are not sent. AI responses can contain errors or omissions; they are not financial or tax advice and should be checked before you rely on them.
Governing law
Retirement Planner is developed in Canada. Disputes arising from its use are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
